Totally got married yesterday, and might have called the officiant a “motherfucker” during the ceremony.

that's what cecilia said: Call Me Ishmael: Or, How I Feel About Being Married to a Bryn Mawr Graduate by E.B White

thatswhatceciliasaid:

This is a ridiculous assignment. The sensations of a Bryn Mawr husband are by their very nature private. Even if there were some good excuse for parading them in public, a prudent male would hesitate to make the attempt, so greatly do they differ from common sensations. But as far as that goes,…

From @EARNEST_CYBORG9

I’m constantly reminded that the idea of “a generation” is of limited value…

Yes

So. Fucking. Angry.

Every time a new generation is about to come of age, the media creates some sort of bullshit idea that they are the laziest, more spoiled, most unproductive generation that ever existed, and that they are going to, alternately, ruin or save the world.  Maybe, just maybe, this is the fucking problem.

Maybe we all need to just stop hanging unrealistic expectations on 18 year old kids.  They don’t even know who they are yet, and they’re not being given the space to figure that out, because they’ve already been stamped with some sort of ridiculous platitude.

I know it’s not sexy, but the truth is that some millennials will probably be geniuses who create amazing things, some will probably be kind and generous and leave the world a better place, some will probably be lazy, destructive, selfish, etc.  Just as it always has been and always will be, this generation will have its heroes and its assholes.  Why not just let them figure out who is who on their own?

I was at Target yesterday and this little girl wanted to buy Halo 4, but this lady came up to her and said video games are for boys. This lady had a box of trix in her cart and so the girl grabs the box and said ‘and trix are for kids.’ and ran off with the cereal and the game.

Good for her.

fuck yeah

THAT WAS THE BEST ENDING

baconcentric replied to your post: As a current undergraduate student at Bryn Mawr, I would like to say that we love our alums. They mean the world to us. But I do believe in the validity of a safe space at step sing, because when “Goddamned Bell!” is screamed, everyone should feel…

I understand that being excluded from step-sing must have felt hurtful and frustrating to you, especially since you have attended previous May Day step-sings as an alum.

However, I think it’s unfair for you to call the current community’s desire for a safe space during step-sing “bullshit.”   As an alum, I hope that you value Bryn Mawr’s existence as a community in which the current students, myself included, can feel comfortable, safe, and in control.  Bryn Mawr’s campus is not public property, though it is open to the public much of the time.  It is our home, and the May Day step sing is the culmination of 1-4 years of us working together to create a safe space within that home, where we are able to have the freedom to take the kinds of risks many of us would not take elsewhere, or in the presence of non-community members.  I can only officially speak for myself, but I think the reasons for keeping step-sing attendance confined to current community members goes beyond the comfort and safety of those who wish to participate in the post-bell ringing jog around Taylor.  I think it extends to those of us who would not drink and sing and raise lanterns anywhere else, or with anyone but our fellow community members. Our ability to decide this, and enforce it, is part of the reason why Bryn Mawr is so special to me and it is one of the many ways in which Bryn Mawr has come to feel like home for myself and many others.

Please don’t come into my home and tell me that the parts of it which I want to keep private are “bullshit.”
